MTB

Mountain biking is a great alternative to road cycling and will bring your bike handling skills to a whole new level. Ipswich Cycling Club is the only MTBA (Mountainbike Australia) affiliated club in Ipswich. Previously MTBers from Ipswich needed to be affiliated with Brisbane MTB Clubs, but we would encourage and welcome local riders to join Ipswich Cycling Club.

There are two options for joining MTBA. You may 'value add' you CA racing membership - when you join MTBA as a rider with a current CA racing license, you will get a discount and your license will cost $60 (extra to your racing license). Currently MTBA and CA are separate entities and you still must join each separately. If you choose to join as a MTBA member only, the same process applies but it will cost $115. Visit the MTBA Memberships page for more details.

MTBA is currently trying to build it's membership base by offering 'try before you buy' with a free 8 week membership.

Where to ride -

The local racing scene is quite ative and there are numerous races ranging from cross country, endurance, downhilling and marathon races - even 24 hour racing. Qld MTB is the hub for what's on locally. The local 'Wild West Series' is a fantastic series which only costs $15 per race - you will often race on venues not otherwise available to the general public.

Local riding also available at Castle Hill, corner of Thomas and Mary Streets, Blackstone. It is a fairly technical course but one of the few areas anywhere in SEQ which is 'ungroomed'.

Other tracks are available at Gap Creek, Daisy Hill, Mount Joyce and Hiddenvale Resort.

Any queries regarding MTBing please feel free to contact Geoff Stieler by email.
